July Castle Lake Clean-Up To all who love the beauty and serenity of Castle Lake, it’s time to give back some TLC by joining the River Exchange, Shasta Mountain Guides, and the Castle Lake Research Lab in an extensive clean-up of this pristine environment. Over the years human use has increased, and signs of the impact in the form of trash in the lake as well as around its shoreline is increasingly visible. So don your goggles, snorkel and wetsuit, or help us scout the woods. For more information, please call the River Exchange at 235-2012 or Shasta Mtn. Guides at 926-3117. August Interpretive River Rafting Trip CANCELED Join the fun as River Dancers and The River Exchange offer an ecology/natural history float trip down the Klamath River with our naturalist guide Phil Detrich. Riding inflatable kayaks, we’ll float from Tree of Heaven Campground through Class 2+ rapids and stop for lunch along the way. $80 adults; $70 children 8 yrs. or older. September The Annual Great River Clean-Up Gather your friends and neighbors and join us for the Great River Clean-Up. Register Saturday morning at the Dunsmuir City Park OR at Siskiyou Lake dam parking lot at 9:00 a.m.. Free lunch after the clean-up for volunteers at the Dunsmuir City Park. Prizes awarded to finders of golden rocks, and other special trash categories. Call for more details. Panther Meadow Restoration Outing Bring your work gloves and join the River Exchange, the Mt. Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, and the US Forest Service for a day of caring for Panther Meadows. The outing will include trail repair, planting of native vegetation, and restoration of eroded soils. There will also be time to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area and learn about its unique habitat. Everyone is welcome to attend! Bring a bag lunch, water, and gloves. October Tauhindauli Park/Upper Soda Springs Fall Revival The River Exchange and the Dunsmuir Garden Club are gathering forces to render an attack on invasive vegetation on a riparian meadow and park in Dunsmuir. Please join us for a community assault on blackberry, Scotch broom, black locust, and ivy. We’ll bring the tools, you bring the muscle. Students earn community service credits, too! Participants should wear sturdy pants and shoes - bring gloves. For more information, or to register, please contact the River Exchange. Members and community welcome! November Sustainable Watershed Series ~"Bugs, Weeds, Springs & Things" Join us for another installment in our fascinating “Sustainable Watershed” lecture series. We will be featuring a guest speaker to enlighten the audience on alternatives to using pesticides and herbicides in the watersheds of southern Siskiyou County. REX's research director, Dr. Rene Henery, will also present an update on our work in the McCloud watershed.
