Annual Fly Fishing Clinic

The annual Fly Fishing Clinic has quickly become our most popular educational event.  This is a great opportunity to be introduced to the art of fly fishing for the first time, or to brush up on your skills with two highly experienced instructors.

The 2014 Clinic will be held on Sunday, August 17, at 10 a.m.  As of August 13, we still have several spaces available.  The cost is $35, cash or check please.  Call 530-235-2012 or email phil@riverexchange.org today to reserve a spot!

Local fly fishing guides Wayne Eng and Fred Gordon lead the clinic with lecture and demo instruction on various aspects of fly fishing in the Upper Sacramento River. Topics covered include casting techniques, equipment and rigging, insects of the river, reading the river and more. The day begins at Dunsmuir’s beautiful City Park with a general introduction to fly fishing. From there, the clinic is split into two groups to suit the skill levels of the students; Wayne Eng works with novices while Fred Gordon takes on the more experienced fly fishers.

Wayne Eng has taken hundreds of people on the water to hone their skills, from beginners to experts. You can find out more about Wayne at www.methodcraft.com/waynesworld/index.html.

Fred Gordon has been guiding for over twenty-five years and has extensive experience as an instructor, both on-stream and through the fly fishing programs he developed at Sierra College and California State University in Sacramento. Fred is also an accomplished artist; learn more at www.fredgordon.net

The admission cost of this event is used to fund the River Exchange's watershed education programs. Participants do not need their own equipment to participate, but will need to bring their own lunch and water bottle. Space for this clinic is limited, and reservations are required. Call or email us to make your reservation.
