Natural Resource Management Mentorship Program
Beginning in the spring of 2013, this independent study program has provided educational experiences for high school students from Mt. Shasta High School and Golden Eagle Charter School (both located in Mt, Shasta, CA). Each semester, students are exposed to a range of natural resource based professions throughout the region. Program focus areas include physical/watershed science, wildlife and fisheries management, native plants and invasive species management, forest and fire management, and cultural resources management. Each week, the students are partnered with professionals from local agencies, organizations or businesses to gain first-hand knowledge of resource management and the opportunities that our area holds for interested young people.
We receive crucial mentoring support for this program from numerous local agencies, organizations and businesses. Thank you also to Board member and Education Committee chair Mellen Colberg, for taking the lead on this effort.
